Painting is one of my life’s joys. There have been two major influences on my art career. Several years ago, I signed up for a pottery class at Ghost Ranch (Georgia O’Keeffe’s ranch) in Abiquiu, New Mexico with my daughter who is also an artist. As fate determined, the pottery class did not make, but they offered a plein air painting class with a well known New Mexico artist. The class sparked my interest in and my passion for painting.

The second influence was my aunt, Paula Vaden Carlton. She was a Southwestern artist, and I grew up watching her paint and teach in her studio. She graciously gave me several lessons that focused on color, light and composition. She encouraged me to try new things. My favorite artist tool, a palette knife, was introduced to me by my Aunt Paula and enables the creation of texture and depth. My time spent with my Aunt Paula will always be treasured.

My works are inspired by nature, travel with my family and color. Through a variety of mediums, walnut oils, watercolors and acrylics, I enjoy exploring different styles.

I love creating commissioned pieces for clients. Through communication we are able to add special, personal meaning to their spaces. I have worked with interior designers and clients from Texas to Montana. Seeing my paintings in people’s homes is beyond rewarding. During the year, I split my time between Texas and New Mexico (Taos and Albuquerque), where I love spending time with my family and grandchildren.
